Payment gateways we implement

Three ways for your customers to pay online

We have integration capabilities with the online payment gateways of all banks in Papua New Guinea. These are the options most clients start with — we integrate each one end to end, from your merchant application to a tested, live checkout, and can combine them so customers choose how they pay.

Visa debit & credit cards

BSP Online Payments

BSP’s PNG-built Internet Payment Gateway (IPG) lets customers pay on your website or portal with a Visa debit or credit card — including the BSP Visa debit cards held by many local customers. It already processes payments for organisations such as Air Niugini and government services on the Department of Finance customer portal.

  • Secure card checkout on BSP’s gateway — card details never stored on your systems
  • Instant e-receipts by email or SMS
  • Real-time revenue reporting for finance teams
  • Offered side by side with BSP Pay at checkout
Best for: Card-holding customers, local and international
No card, just pay

BSP Pay

BSP Pay lets any BSP account holder pay directly from their bank account — no card required. At checkout the customer selects BSP Pay, enters their name and BSP Customer ID, and confirms with a one-time security code sent to their registered mobile. It reaches the many Papua New Guineans who have a bank account but no debit card.

  • Pay straight from a BSP account — no Visa card needed
  • One-time SMS security code on every payment
  • Real-time settlement into your BSP account
  • Used by merchants such as Air Niugini, Telikom and UPNG
Best for: BSP account holders without a card — students, parents, SMEs
Kina Internet Payment Gateway

Kina Bank Online Payments

Kina Bank’s Internet Payment Gateway accepts Visa and Mastercard and was the first in PNG to accept locally issued bank cards, so more customers can pay online. Transactions are protected with 3D Secure authentication, with customers confirming payments by SMS or WhatsApp. It powers online sales for businesses such as the Jungle marketplace and government services like the Immigration & Citizenship Authority.

  • Visa, Mastercard and local Kina Bank cards
  • 3D Secure cardholder authentication
  • Checkout for websites and mobile apps
  • Secure, reliable processing between customer and store
Best for: Card payments, including customers with local bank cards

Emerging-market context

Why online payments matter in PNG

Customers in Papua New Guinea increasingly expect to pay online — for airline tickets, school fees, utilities, government permits and online shopping — yet many still queue at branches or pay in cash. Far more people hold a bank account than a debit card: BSP alone reported more than 1.8 million accounts against roughly 200,000 debit cards when it launched BSP Pay. And after a major global provider withdrew from PNG, the local banks built their own gateways. Offering the right mix of card, bank-account and local-card payments means more customers can pay you, from Port Moresby to the provinces.

How we adapt for PNG

  • Reach customers who have a bank account but no card
  • Automatic e-receipts and reconciliation
  • Locally hosted gateways backed by PNG banks

FAQ

Common questions

Can you integrate with other banks?

Yes. We have integration capabilities with all banks in Papua New Guinea, so we can connect your website, portal or app to the gateway of whichever bank holds your merchant facility — or to several banks at once.

Do I need a merchant facility with the bank?

Yes. BSP and Kina Bank approve and contract merchants directly. We help you prepare your application, gather the business details the bank needs and work with the bank’s digital team through testing and go-live.

Can I offer more than one payment option?

Yes. Many organisations offer BSP Pay alongside card payments, or both BSP and Kina Bank gateways, so customers can choose. We build a single checkout that sends each payment to the right gateway and records it in one place.

Is it secure?

Card details are entered on the bank’s secure gateway, not stored on your systems. BSP Pay payments are confirmed with a one-time SMS code, and Kina Bank’s gateway uses 3D Secure authentication.

What does it cost?

Transaction fees are set by each bank under your merchant agreement. Our integration work is quoted per project — book a free consultation and we’ll recommend the right mix of gateways for your customers.
